L'Onde (play) - Bérénice
This classic takes us to the heart of the conflict between political responsibility and intimacy.
How do you say goodbye? This is the crucial question posed by Racine. Once emperor, Titus is faced with a dilemma: the Senate refutes his union with Berenice, a foreign queen. Guy Cassiers pits a strong Berenice against the cowardice of Titus and his friend Antiochus, who is also in love with her. Politics collide with intimacy: from Titus's bedroom to Berenice's, each character hopes, debates, pours their heart out, putting off the moment of heartbreak.
Blending new technologies with Racine's sublime language, the Flemish director uses Artificial Intelligence and mapping to represent the feelings of the love triangle. The result is a magnificent score for the outstanding performers of the Comédie-Française.
