Théâtre Montansier - Tombeau pour Palerme
Tombeau pour Palerme - Theatre and music
In May 1992, Judge Giovanni Falcone was murdered by Cosa Nostra. In July of the same year, it was the turn of his friend Judge Borsellino. Two modern-day heroes, tireless fighters for justice and freedom at the cost of their lives.
In a fictitious letter, Paolo Borsellino addresses Giovanni Falcone, his friend, his ‘brother’ who, like him, gave his life to protect their land, Sicily, from corruption, injustice and crime. The two men lived side by side, working together, fighting the same enemy. Thomas Bellorini is continuing his search for a musical theatre that confronts and questions contemporary history by acting as a conduit for stories and words. Le tombeau’ is a musical tribute composed for a dead friend, a tribute paid by the playwright to these two men, as well as Borsellino's tribute to Falcone. Laurent Gaudé takes us through the last moments of the judge's life, his last walk and his aborted escape through the streets of Palermo, his final heartbreak for Sicily, this violent mother whose legitimate sons he no longer knows whether they are vigilantes or criminals.
