Gallery of Sculptures and Casts
The Gallery of Sculptures and Casts is situated in the Small Stables of the King, opposite the Palace. Casts of the most famous sculptures of Greek and Roman Antiquity are kept in this gallery, where they were once made for French artists' training.
Built by architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart between 1679 and 1682, the Small Stables were used by the army until 1967. They were then recovered by the Palace, which now hosts the École nationale supérieure d’architecture of Versailles (national architectural school), casts from Le Louvre and original sculptures from the gardens of Versailles.
Casts from Le Louvre are kept in the two galleries spreading north and south from the central rotunda. The central gallery is occupied by casts of Greek and Roman Antiquity as well as original scuptures of Versailles.
